Welland School Expansion

School Improvement and Expansion

I am  delighted that we were approached by Worcestershire Local Authority to expand Welland Primary School. This expansion is necessary to provide sufficient school places for all the children who now live in Welland. The HUET, Welland Local Governing Body and Teaching Team feel passionately that Welland is a vibrant, family orientated school that sits at the heart of the community, delivering an excellent education. Therefore, it is really important that every child who lives in our area should be able to attend their local school.

Historically we have had 20 pupils per year group and a complex mixed age class structure. The proposal increased capacity to 30 pupils per year group. This allows us to have a separate class for each year group, meaning that Welland would become a standard one-form entry Primary School with full capacity for 210 pupils.  The increase in the physical capacity of the school will allow the school to grow gradually over time. We started admitting up to 30 children in Reception from 2021.

To accommodate this increase in pupils, the LA are providing £900,000 to improve the school buildings and increase the number of classrooms. As well as the three new classrooms, there are additional toilets, the hall has been extended and a new kitchen area provided.

The building work for the new expansion is complete and we are enjoying our new space and faclilities.
